May Court 2009 Announced

Senior Rachel Smith, a varsity member of the cross country team, was elected the 2009 May Queen of Girls Preparatory School on Friday, Jan. 16. The senior class had voted earlier in the week for the six members of the court: Jasmine Brown, Rachel Cobble, Danna Myatt, Madison Powers, Smith, and Laura Wagner.

Members of the court are representative in the “highest sense” of the ideals of the school, and they are chosen in part because of the positive contributions they make in all areas of school life. Smith is a member of Chamber Singers and the National Honor Society.

A school-wide vote by the entire student body chose the queen. The queen, her maid of honor Jasmine Brown, and the court will reign over the traditional GPS May Day ceremony on Wednesday, April 29, that honors all members of the senior class in a springtime presentation.

The girls who make up this year’s court serve the school as presidents of Christian Forum, Character Committee, and Terpsichord; on the Honor Council, and in varsity athletics.
During the May Day presentation, Rachel Cobble and Laura Wagner will be trainbearers, Danna Myatt will by crownbearer, and Madison Powers will be the scepter bearer.
