Senior Caitlin McAloon, a class representative on the Student Council, was elected the 2008 GPS May Queen on Friday, Jan. 11. The senior class had voted earlier in the week for the six members of the court; McAloon, Jamie Holstine, Catie Lester, Amelia Morgan, Stephanie Ryals, and Hannah Shadrick.
Members of the court are representative in the “highest sense” of the ideals of the school, and they are chosen in part because of the positive contributions they make in all areas of school life. McAloon is also the co-chairman of the GPS Model UN chapter.
A school-wide vote by the entire student body chose the Queen and then the Maid of Honor, Catie Lester. The queen, her maid of honor, and the court will reign over the traditional GPS May Day ceremony on Wednesday, April 30, that honors all members of the senior class in a springtime presentation.
The court includes the presidents of the GPS Student Council and Honor Council, varsity athletes, and active community service volunteers.
